An Alcohol Dependent Individual Registers For Rehab And Receives Alcohol Detox And Rehabilitation For His Alcohol Addiction

Donald used to boast to his friends how he could keep a full-time job and get intoxicated almost every night. Unfortunately, after maintaining this destructive lifestyle for roughly two years, he began to have various alcohol related problems.

For instance, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so exhausted when he awoke. Furthermore, just about every morning Donald experienced a severe hangover. It was apparent that the combination of his lack of energy and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To make matters worse, he recently received his third driving under the influence citation in the past eleven weeks.

To compound things further, at his job his last two performance appraisals were less than acceptable. And finally, his relationship with his girlfriend had gotten worse due to his financial difficulties, angry outbursts, depression, and his lack of patience.

Though Donald was only twenty six years old, he simply started looking like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what abusive and excessive drinking can do to a person. And in truth he knew that he was suffering from the negative outcomes of alcohol abuse or alcoholism and that he was too young to fritter away his life to abusive and careless drinking. So at first he tried to drink in moderation. Unfortunately, he soon found out that he lost his self control after consuming his first drink. Due to the fact that this was an event that was repeated every time he drank, this obviously concerned him a great deal. In actual fact, he began to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.

After talking about his alcohol drinking problems and his irresponsible drinking with his girlfriend, he finally decided to schedule an appointment to see his physician. When Donald saw his family doctor, he sincerely declared that he has been drinking in a hazardous manner, that he may be exhibiting behavior characteristic of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to stop drinking. He said that drinking in moderation does not seem to work for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can develop an alcohol-free lifestyle.

Donald also told his doctor about his depression and how this mental health problem was negatively affecting his relationship with his lady friend. His doctor referred Donald to Doctor DeRosa, a drug and alcohol addiction specialist, who convinced Donald to enroll in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol rehab. The good news is that Donald would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this facility.

After three months of intensive rehab, Donald left the in-patient treatment facility and continued his recovery via outpatient counseling and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Encouraged to change his life in a healthier way, Donald joined a gym and began working out two or three times per week. Within four months Donald was a new person. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more loving person in his relationship with his lady friend. Simply put, abstaining from drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
